One state, six regions: what the GTA 6 map actually is
GTA 6 is set in Vice City — but Vice City is one region of a much larger map. Rockstar's official story framing describes a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida, and the official GTA VI site names six regions: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga National Park.
Those names are not fan inventions. They went official on May 6, 2025, when Rockstar released Trailer 2 and rebuilt the GTA VI website the same day with six location pages, eight character pages, and roughly 70 screenshots. This page is GTAWiki's map hub: every region gets a section below, built from official descriptions first, with community estimates and open questions labeled as exactly that.
All six official GTA 6 regions at a glance
| Region | What Rockstar highlights | Deep dive |
|---|---|---|
| Vice City | Miami-inspired metropolis: Ocean Beach, downtown, waterfront Ferris wheel | Vice City guide |
| Leonida Keys | Island chain, overwater highways, smuggling country; Jason's home | Leonida Keys guide |
| Grassrivers | Everglades-inspired wetlands: swamps, airboats, alligators | Section below |
| Port Gellhorn | Faded Panhandle-style coastal town: motels, fight club | Port Gellhorn guide |
| Ambrosia | Rural-industrial: sugar refinery, biker gangs | Section below |
| Mount Kalaga National Park | Forested highlands and backwoods | Section below |
The sections below expand each region: the official description, what trailers and screenshots show there, and which characters call it home. Three regions already have dedicated deep-dive guides; the rest will get them as Rockstar publishes more material.
Vice City: the Miami-inspired anchor
Vice City is the anchor: a modern, Miami-inspired metropolis and the densest region Rockstar has shown. Official material highlights Ocean Beach, a high-rise downtown, and the waterfront Ferris wheel that has become the game's most recognizable landmark. Trailer 2 spends much of its runtime at street level here — traffic, beach crowds, nightlife, and the social-media circus orbiting all of it.
The June 2026 pre-order reveals added named ground truth. The Vintage Vice City Pack's '55 Vapid Stanier comes with the Shore Court garage near Ocean Beach, and the Ultimate Edition docks its pink-and-blue Shitzu Squalo at Washington Beach — two beach districts now officially on the record. The character roster anchors Boobie Ike, a Vice City street legend turned mogul with real estate, a strip club, and a recording studio, to the city's hustle economy.
For landmark-by-landmark detail, read the dedicated Vice City guide; for the retro bonus content set here, the Vintage Vice City Pack explainer covers the '55 Stanier and Shore Court.
Leonida Keys: overwater highways and smuggling country
The Leonida Keys are an island chain strung together by overwater highways, with smuggling written directly into the official description. This is where GTA 6's story starts breathing: Jason lives in the Keys and works for local drug runners while wanting an easier life than the one he keeps getting.
The supporting cast makes the region feel lived-in before anyone has played it. Brian Heder, a classic Keys drug runner from the smuggling golden age, runs a boat yard with his third wife Lori and is also Jason's landlord. Cal Hampton, Jason's conspiracy-minded friend, monitors Coast Guard radio from behind a firewall — exactly the kind of paranoia a smuggling coast produces.
The dedicated Leonida Keys guide covers the islands in full; the Jason profile covers the man stuck living there.
Grassrivers: the Everglades region
Grassrivers is Leonida's Everglades: sawgrass wetlands, airboats, and alligators, per Rockstar's own description. No region announces “this map is bigger than one city” more loudly. Even the official cover art works an alligator and a flamingo boat into its collage — wildlife and water are core to the game's identity, not set dressing.
Rockstar has not named a single town, settlement, or mission inside Grassrivers. What is safe to say: the region exists, it is wetland-themed, and airboats and gators are officially part of it. Anything more specific belongs in the confirmed-vs-rumor locations guide until Rockstar says otherwise.
Port Gellhorn: the faded coast
Port Gellhorn is the map's sharpest tonal swing: a faded, Panhandle-style coastal town defined by motels, worn-out strips, and a fight club. Where Vice City sells success, Port Gellhorn sells the Leonida that got left behind — which makes it prime GTA satire territory and an obvious magnet for low-rent criminal story beats.
The fight club is the detail fans keep circling, but Rockstar has not confirmed how it plays — activity, mission setting, or backdrop. Every official appearance of the town is tracked in the dedicated Port Gellhorn guide.
Ambrosia: refinery and biker country
Ambrosia is rural-industrial Leonida: sugar refinery country with biker gangs in the official description. It reads as the state's working interior — processing plants, freight roads, and roadhouse culture instead of beaches and nightlife. The biker detail matters for tone: Leonida's crime is not just city hustlers and coastal smugglers; the official description reserves space for highway gangs and industrial rackets too.
It is tempting to map Ultimate Edition businesses like One-Eyed Willie's off-road shop onto regions like this one, but Rockstar has not placed those businesses anywhere specific. Treat any region assignment for them as analysis, not fact.
Mount Kalaga National Park: the forested highlands
Mount Kalaga National Park is the forested-highlands region — the closest Leonida gets to wilderness. The clearest official signal about how it plays comes from edition content: the Ultimate Edition's '67 Vapid Dominator Buggy is pitched at the backwoods of Mount Kalaga, which strongly implies off-road traversal is part of the park's identity.
A national park setting also suggests trails, campgrounds, and ranger-station Americana. None of that is confirmed. What is official: the name, the forest, the highlands, and a buggy built for them.
Leonida is not one city with scenery around it. It is six regions with six different criminal economies — and Rockstar has named every one of them.
How big is the GTA 6 map? A community estimate, not an official figure
The honest answer: Rockstar has not said. There is no official square mileage, no official comparison to GTA 5, and no interactive map as of July 3, 2026.
The number you have probably seen — roughly twice the size of GTA 5's map — is a community measurement. Fan mapping projects line up trailer frames, screenshot horizons, and coastline shapes against known reference points to estimate scale, and their consensus lands around 2x GTA 5. That work is often careful and internally consistent, but it is fan math: it cannot account for how much of the state is playable space versus scenery, and it has no official confirmation behind it.
What would settle the question: an official in-game map screen, storefront copy with hard numbers, or a Rockstar Newswire post about the world. Until one of those exists, treat every size figure as an estimate — including the one in this section.
Where the map evidence comes from
Every confirmed fact on this page traces back to four official drops:
- Trailer 1 (December 4, 2023): introduced Lucia and re-introduced Vice City, with beaches, wetlands, and wildlife framing the state from the first minute.
- Trailer 2 (May 6, 2025): street-level Vice City, the Jason and Lucia partnership, and coastal Leonida in motion.
- The same-day site overhaul: six location pages — one per region — plus eight character pages and roughly 70 screenshots.
- The June 2026 pre-order reveals: edition media that named Ocean Beach, Washington Beach, the Shore Court garage, and the Mount Kalaga backwoods while showing new vehicles and businesses.
How to read that material without overreaching is its own discipline — our official screenshots guide covers what images can and cannot confirm, and the Ultimate Edition breakdown covers the edition content in depth.

What remains unknown — and what would confirm it
- Interactive map: Rockstar has not published one. Every “GTA 6 interactive map” online is fan-made and unofficial.
- Fast travel and traversal: no official word on fast travel, airports, or aircraft systems. The cover art features a helicopter; how flight works remains unconfirmed.
- Interior counts: a June 2026 retail-listing leak claimed around 700 enterable shops. That is an unverified leak, not a Rockstar statement.
- Region gating: the story is officially chapter-based, but whether all six regions are open from the start is unknown.
- District names: beyond Ocean Beach and Washington Beach, no official neighborhood list for Vice City exists.
Leaks and reconstruction rumors are tracked separately in the story leaks and rumors guide. For the launch picture — November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S — start with the release date and platforms guide, and watch the map category hub as Rockstar publishes more.
Frequently asked questions
- How big is the GTA 6 map compared to GTA 5?
- Rockstar has not published official map dimensions. Community mapping projects that line up trailer and screenshot geometry estimate Leonida at roughly twice the size of GTA 5's map, but that is a fan measurement, not an official figure.
- What are the six regions in GTA 6?
- The official GTA VI site names Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga National Park. All six were made official with the site overhaul on May 6, 2025.
- Is GTA 6 set only in Vice City?
- No. Vice City is one region of the state of Leonida, and Rockstar's story framing describes a criminal conspiracy stretching across the whole state. Official material covers beaches, islands, swamps, a faded coastal town, industrial farmland, and forested highlands.
- Is there an official interactive GTA 6 map?
- No. As of July 3, 2026, Rockstar has not published an interactive map or any official map screen. Interactive maps circulating online are fan-made reconstructions and should be treated as unofficial.
- Where does Jason live in GTA 6?
- Jason lives in the Leonida Keys, where he works for local drug runners. His landlord is Brian Heder, a veteran Keys smuggler who runs a boat yard with his third wife Lori.
